GREG’S DIVE

Investing & Money

Explained like you are 22.

(If you are over 40 and playing catch up, you are also in the right place)

When my wife and I were in our late 30’s, we were well on the path to what some would call a high net worth. We owned our own home, had a rental property, 2 kids, 2 dogs and saved about 10% in our company 401K’s, just like the world tells everyone to do. We were the typical, hard working American family, on the road to success.

Then karma laughed and decided it was time to throw some curve balls our way. I was fired from a job of 10 years due to a company merger and a president whose ego outweighed his brains by about 5X. It took me 6 months to find work during that time. We had to navigate a sudden medical condition that we never anticipated. At the same time all of that was happening, I consolidated all of our retirement money into an IRA and made some really bad decisions, which resulted in me having to tell my wife that I may never retire because most of it was now gone. You wanna talk about “having a life or death experience”! That conversation almost ended me!

Today, we are fully recovered from financial catastrophe and Greg’s Dive is a place that is dedicated to educating people to not make similar mistakes. I have learned over the past couple decades that financial freedom is easy for anyone who is committed to letting compounding interest and time do the work. For those people who want more control over their financial choices, I have also learned that there can be better choices than some of the benefits your current employer offers you.
